An Investigation of Directions of Research on Bee Venom in the Sphere of Oriental Medicine in Korea in Last Decade

Abstract
By classifying and analyzing dissertations from colleges of oriental medicine of Korea and articles and papers issued in the Korean journals of oriental medicine in last decade on bee venom, we could reach the following conclusions about recent tendency of research on bee venom within the sphere of oriental medicine in Korea.

1. Totally, in the studies bee venom, more than seven articles of consideration papers and more than fifty experimental case reports have been published.

2. In the field of considerations papers, there were following articles: general and brief summary of bee venom therapy (3 articles), consideration by the help of computer search (3 articles), consideration of old oriental medicine documents (1 article), consideration connected with cancer (1 article). About the experimental case reports, we could find out next ones: report on the effects of anti - inflammation of bee venom (5 articles), on the analgesic effects (4 articles), on the amelioration of circulation of the blood (3 articles), arthritis (7 articles), anti - convulsions (1 article), anti - tumor (2 articles), neuronal activities (6 articles), brain neuronal activities (1 article), aid immune response and toxicity (11 articles).

3. In the closer examination on the last articles on immune response aid toxicity, they are classified by subjects into the effects on the immunoreaction 6 articles), toxicity and dose (6 articles), the stability (1 article), and research of production of anti - toxin (1 article).

4. By annual statistics, the concentrated and elaborated studies on bee velum started in 1992 with 3 articles, have come to the results of publication of more than 15 articles in 2000, and still in the situation of improvement by quantity and quality.

5. In the earlier period, before 1995, 15 articles on the bee venom¡¯s effects on anti - inflammation, analgesia, circulation of blood and 6 articles on characteristics, stability and dose of death of bee venom was published, respectively. Papers connected with arthritis have been issued from the beginning of research to the present day continually. All of five clinical observations habe been made only after 1999, and more than 10 reports connected with anti-tumor and neuronal activities, especially, have been printed intensively in the latest days, after 20000.
